From catwalk to aisle, tailoring is pushing the theme of reinterpreting style codes – classic suiting receives a subtle contemporary overhaul by combining slightly more casual separates. This means established sartorial directions are revitalised and have broader appeal.
Tactile aspects are ever important. The wool blazer and wool textured suits are a way to experiment, with the velvet blazer also evolving as a strong option. Velvet jackets are seen in rich, dark shades – think classic black or adventurous plum. For a pared back elegance, this piece is the one to go for. Add a personal touch via neck scarves or ties and platinum accessories.

Try out the country heritage trend (with fresh urban interpretation). Seasonal blazers appear in peacock blue, bottle green and other outdoor tones. What’s more, checks continue to dominate with an array of tonal variations seen across plaids and graphic checks. Granular wools in shades of grey complement refined styling in salt and pepper textures. There’s also a sleek 1980s undertone, which can be topped off with the smartest leather footwear.

For three-piece suit fans, tapered pants and wool blazers are fused together with the waistcoat. Colour, texture and pattern have been revised in order for these conventional suits to offer more freedom of expression. Core tones include black, khaki, grey and navy. Wear premium brogues to top off your dapper ensemble.

Stand out in a tuxedo. Classic tuxedo looks are refreshed through a colour palette of rich indigo and deep wine. The season’s updates range from narrow interpretations of the shawl collar to new notch lapels, with authentic details remaining such as coordinating waistcoats and pocket squares. Style it up with tonal satin lapels as you stand by the altar.

When it comes to print, the famous check suit is a wedding failsafe. Checks work for now as a key pattern with sharp overchecks lending a graphic city feel to contemporary suits. Colour-rich applications offer a modern heritage direction but muted translations have more mainstream appeal on clean, neutral backgrounds. Coordinate your shirt and bowtie for a sartorial edge on the ‘first dance’ floor.

And now for the brides… Historical references continue to evoke whimsical romance. A youthful appeal is achieved through draped, elongated sleeves, delicate silk chiffon and modern crystal and pearl embellishment detailing. Pearl embellishments cover or delicately edge carefully crafted architectural silhouettes. Modern and chic, pearly beads also appear on pieces with fabric manipulated into a provocative mermaid back.

As ever, this season’s gowns are romantic, graceful and sensual. Lightest frills edge boudoir-inspired silhouettes whilst elsewhere, tiny seed pearls and crystals ensure appealing textures across a range of full-length dresses. There’s no better event than your wedding to look sublime, after all.

For the more daring bride, skin-revealing gowns force you to step out of your comfort zone and challenge the traditional. Elegant yet seductive bridalwear ups the ante throughout your ceremony. Couture techniques are also used, luxurious in application, which show off cascading ruffles or tiered skirts. Sinuous silk gowns follow the form with provocative cuts to the waist and back. Elsewhere, a Spanish influence can be chosen with tiers of fringing and floral appliqués offering flair and flamboyance.

Still deciding on your ‘something blue’? Look to bridal intimates for the solution. Soft baby blue remains popular with the addition of delicate lace ivory trims for contrast. The styles are luxurious with 3D appliqué flowers or intricate embroidery the details to note. The garden rose trend is an alternative; choose soft pink shades across sheer fine lace. Demi cups and cross-neck shapes bring a daring edge to the soft, girlish palette. For SS17, bondage elements inspire with wedding-night lingerie becoming more risqué (think cut-outs and wide elastic with roulex strapping). If opting for something more traditional though, the bridal body is a sweet choice. The lace body is flirtatious with plunge fronts and peepholes, made special with delicate bows and ribbons.
