SS17 swimwear trends you can’t live without

As summer officially hits, EyeFitU round up the 7 SS17 swimwear trends you can’t live without. Seriously.

From new favourite colours to throwback shapes and cuts, read on for what to wear by the poolside this season.

Vintage bathing suit

Our first pick is the vintage swimsuit – the key shape to be seen in this season. Retro styling is enhanced through textured fabric details or wide straps. With a hint of the 1980s, it’s clear classical nautical styling has returned. Mix it up with stripes becoming the new classic and clash blitz blue or deep navy with rich red.

Body lines

Sporty yet sexy cuts make up this next swimwear trend we’ve spotted, that again takes influence from the 80s. Sitting in line with the meteoric athleisure trend, our favourite pieces are bodycon with solid and sheer panelling. Look out for the high-apex bikini – now a statement piece. The cutouts and extended wire ensure a high-end appeal. Another key shape making waves for SS17 is the high leg cut (super flattering and ideal for the body sculpting trend, up next). Experiment with statement neckpieces or play with sheer mesh sections.

Sculpted

Details come into play with this trend that mixes the delicate and pretty with smooth, strong fabric qualities. Minimalism is championed; think cross-wrap halter neck shapes, simple tanga style bottoms and wide straps. The handcrafted designs sit in a soft calming colour palette. Check out matte neoprene in mangosteen, a new colour obsession for the season. Try metallic pieces, too.

Eclectic

More is more with this swimwear trend that fuses an array of bold cultural prints with layering and unexpected volume. Say hello to embellishment, frills, fringing and embroidery or eye-catching print with a ‘notice me’ aesthetic. Frills are dramatic and oversized and elongated suede fringe feels fresh.

Neutrals

In contrast, minimal neutral tones emerge across swimwear pieces. SS17 sees soft sand and washed-out khaki shades dominate. Luxurious golden copper, faded in tone, is a new addition to the trend. Look out for nature-inspired prints that lend a summer feel, plus tactile textures of rope, enhanced by their simple, fuss-free shapes.

Decorative

Don’t shy away from OTT looks with the decorative trend. Falling into the festival category, create a statement with brave beach-to-bar dressing. The list goes on with macramé, lace, embroidery and exquisite embellishment. Embroidered and appliquéd looks are worked onto swimwear with blanket stitching, taking over from floral prints. Lace-up details add another decorative touch. With a more directional turn, rope, plaques and a hint of bondage up the ante across other SS17 styles.

Racer red

Last but certainly not least in the strong impact stakes, racer red rears its head as the hot colour to be seen in on the beach. The bold statement of red works across minimal or active-inspired swimwear pieces. Turn heads in the strong, saturated tone and complement with fresh white bindings and trims. Alternatively, look out for textured fabrics in the shade for a retro nod.

Now where are our passports?
