Mykonos: the trending travel destination.

The party set have moved on to Mykonos, the latest fashion hotspot that everyone is talking about. The fashion world’s haute hedonists and top celebrities alike are basking in the heat at Nammos beach or Kalo Livadi.

The hot (in more ways than one) party destination has become a popular stop on the circuit. Come August, there’s a whirlwind of parties from Scorpios Beach (for sun-drenched afternoon parties) and shoe designer Brian Atwood’s themed birthday bash, to the raucous Dsquared2 party (which last time saw Grammy-winning American house DJ, David Morales, playing). For your beauty look this party season, show off glittering face art with sequins around the eyes or a colourful jewel bindi.

With super-yachts and private jets dropping in frequently, Mykonos remains ‘reassuringly expensive’. Sun-seekers dine in restaurant favourites Nobu, Hakkasan, and the Buddha Bar at Santa Marina Hotel, Bill & Co or Uno Con Carne. For the best sushi, don’t miss Koursaros or visit La Cucina di Daniele for a delicious mix of Mediterranean and Italian cuisine.

As a top style destination, holiday goers must fit in a shopping trip… or five. Hit up the Louis Vuitton boutique, Simple Caractere, Enny Di Monaco and Elena Makri Mykonos. The island also boasts eclectic pop-ups too, such as this year’s shop by jewellery line, Venyx. With so much happening on the island, don’t risk forgetting the original reason for travelling there – glorious weather and stunning scenery! Think beaches with turquoise waters, craggy hills and whitewashed walls on winding streets. Make time for Panormos beach, Paraga (which offers abeautifully quiet retreat) and Ftelia (the best spot for windsurfing).

Pack your colourfully glamorous outfits and show off some Hellenic style. So what are the swimwear trends to note this season? First up, Mykonos monosports – fashion’s elite are working monochrome lines, clean shapes and colour blocking for bold contrast. Snap up pieces from River Island on EyeFitU to tick off this trend.

Stand out from the crowd with a sheer lace cover-up and ‘more is more’ bikini chains. Clubbers finish off their outfits with gorgeous golden or stark silver body chains, layered over bikinis or a pair of denim cut-offs. Statement embellishment is seen on swimwear itself too – this year, it’s even bolder and brighter. Think contrast chunky beads in metallics andpastels, or move on the decoration with metal plates mixed with solid colours or fun prints.

MYCONIAN STYLE

Take the lead from fashion bloggers who aren’t shying away from a low plunge neckline this summer. When it comes to swimwear, choose bright bold prints or, on the other side of the spectrum, subtle textured fabric. Looks are cinched in at the waist and ideal for that beach-to-bar look. Rouleau plunge is also having a moment with rouleau decorative straps becoming finer this season. Crossover wrap swimsuits remain popular, a great shape for the closing parties. Super glamorous, they show off a provocative low plunge in tropical prints or block colours. We love Norma Kamali pieces on EyeFitU with their brave cutouts and ruched details (in classic black or leopard print).

For a more bohemian feel, try handmade style, crafted swimwear sporting crochet and macramé details. Small trims in multicolour are popular, with a crafty cover-up in burnout fabrics or all-over crochet and appliqué lace placement. EyeFitU favourite, Matthew Williamson, presents crepe de chine tops and dresses in this style.

READY FOR MYKONOS

For the urban street style wearers, experiment with slogan swimming costumes. Bright, bold and playful, these work best in minimalist shapes with front text placement as the main feature. Elsewhere, lace-up designs are taking over from traditional strapping. Using rouleauloops or eyelets, the lace-up detail can be placed in different, daring positions for a design detail that’s sexy and fashion-forward. Last but not least, soft metallics are a micro-trend to have in mind too. Soft shades of gold, silver and gunmetal metallics are cropping up on the latest swimwear. The faded gold swimsuits sit alongside embellished cover-ups in simple shapes for a style statement.

READY FOR MYKONOS PARTIES!

And what about the menswear to be seen in at Mykonos this month? You can’t escape printed swim shorts. Choose bold graphics, either standout brights or tone-on-tone shades. Silhouettes are traditional and basic but offset with contrast details; these add subtle interest to swim shorts in the form of contrast drawstrings (see this trend at ASOS and Hugo Boss via EyeFitU) or jacquard emblems. Classic, with a slight preppy feeling, men’s swimwear is making waves on the beach and by the poolside parties.
